How do I get in touch with library staff?

Can Fletcher students study in Tisch Library?
Yes. Tisch Library is open to all Tufts community members.
Borrowing
What can I do at the circulation desk?
- Ask questions. (You can also do this online through the Ask a Librarian portal.)
- Ask staff to help locate books by call number and location in the library. (You can also look up call numbers in the library catalog, and review the library’s floor plan online.)
- Borrow and return Course Reserve books.
- Borrow and return technology.
- Borrow and return books from the general circulating collection (stacks).
- Borrow and return interlibrary loan (ILL) books.
Research and Writing Help
How do I get help from a librarian?
Our library staff is happy to answer your research questions virtually or in person. Use the Ask a Librarian portal to request help with your research projects or accessing online resources, and to schedule a virtual Zoom or in-person meeting with a research librarian.

How do I meet with a writing tutor?
StAAR Center Graduate Writing Consultants can collaborate with you during any stage in your writing process: from brainstorming and organizing ideas; to drafting, revising and reorganizing; to editing and polishing on the sentence level. We work with graduate students on papers for coursework; personal statements; capstones, theses, and dissertations; and more. We also host graduate writing retreats, a weekly graduate writing group, and workshops, and we offer both in-person and remote sessions. Electronic Resources
What electronic resources are available to Fletcher students?
The library’s collection of databases, electronic journals, ebooks, and digitized primary sources is available remotely to Tufts students, faculty, and staff from anywhere in the world.
JumboSearch, Ginn Library’s databases (including Bloomberg), and Research Guides are available from off-campus. When you’re off-campus, you will need to sign in with your Tufts username and password, unless you use the Tufts VPN AnyConnect application.
Ask a Librarian if you encounter any difficulty gaining access to resources remotely.

Learning Online
What do I need to be prepared take classes online?
- Visit Learning Remotely for a list of tools you will need to learn in an online environment.

How do I use Zoom?
- Make sure to click Sign In and select single sign on to activate your Tufts Zoom account. Test your computer settings and become familiar with Zoom at Audio and Virtual Conferencing with Zoom.

How do I learn a language?
Mango Languages provides web-based tutorials for over 70 different languages from Arabic to Yiddish. Use your email address to create a personalized account and download the mobile app (Android or iOS).

How do I use the Data Lab?
The Data Lab at Tufts offers learning resources, virtual support, and an online workshop series open to Fletcher students on topics like R, Python, QGIS, Stata, and more. You can also view recordings of past workshops, or sign up for advanced one-on-one consultations and specialty services with Data Lab staff.
How do I get Stata on my computer?
Tufts provides an enterprise license for Stata/SE (Standard Edition) for personal devices, in public computer labs, and on the TTS Virtual Lab. The statistical software package is used for data analytics, data management, and graphics and is available for all faculty, staff, and students.

How do I use other specialized software on my computer?
Log into the Fletcher Remote Lab from your personal computer by downloading the VMWare Horizon Client. This program will allow you to use Stata, SPSS, ArcGIS, and other specialized software programs, just as you would at an on-campus computer lab.
Where do I go for help troubleshooting technology issues?
If you need help with any of the above software or other technology issues, contact the Tufts Technology Service Desk, at it@tufts.edu or 617-627-3376. The Service Desk is open is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Walk-up service desks are located in Ginn Library and at the Eaton Lab at Tisch Library.
